30 Days In The Hole: A Month In Croweland

written by the fanclub

THE past month has been an interesting one for the band. The band is supposedly in the studio as we speak, recording new songs for a 2001 Spring release on V2, their new record label. The band is rumoured to be working with reknowned producer Don Was. Was may be best known in Crowes circles for his work on The Rolling Stone's Voodoo Lounge and Bridges To Babylon albums. His style is one where he tries to get the most out of an artist without leaving any particular signature on the album he has helped on. Of course none of this would be possible right now if it weren't for an unfortunate injury to Jimmy Page. The Crowes and Page had planned an extended run of thier summer tour together, which included shows at Madison Square Garden, co-headlining with the Who. The tour which would have seen all of the US, the UK and Europe, as well as Japan has been scrapped due to Jimmy Page's sore back. Apparently Page threw his back out some time during the combo groups recent show on the Tonight Show. We at the fanclub wish Jimmy a speedy recovery and we hope that fans around the world will be able to see Page and The Crowes soon. In the meantime, however, we will take the good news that the band is in the studio.

The band played last night at the One For Woody Benefit Concert for the daughter of the late Allen Woody. This show marks a brief return to a scene the Crowes appear to have left behind three years ago, the jam band scene. What the end of the tour, the reunion with some old friends, and a trip into the studio all means is anyone's guess. All we can hope for is that the Crowes put out some new music and hit the road as soon as possible. On thing is for sure, there has not exactly been alot of Black Crowes shows in the year 2000 (1 to be exact). Lets hope that the last three months of this year turn that around!
