A few weeks back I decided I needed to update my Crowes collection to include some 1998 Club
Tour shows and some 1999 shows. I started by making a trade with Rev. Blake, one of the regulars
in the Crowes messageboard and trader community. I selected two club tour shows, The By Your Side
Premier Boradcast, 4/4/99 and 10/23/99. I knew that the club shows might not be very interesting
or necessarily perfect sound quality, but I was very suprised to find out that they were both
excellent shows. In particular...
An Old Raincoat Never Let's You Down
The Faces, a band known mostly for the men who came out of it, are one
of the many bands which can be seen as a major influence on The Black Crowes. Kings of
swaggering bar room bawd rock and roll, Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood found themselves
together in the Jeff Beck Group in the late 1960's. Fed up with Beck's uncanny ability
to piss off everyone around him and attempt to control every aspect of a band that had
become too talented for him to control, Woodie and Rod left to join the Faces. On the
way out, though, they stopped briefly to record one of the greatest albums in rock history...
