Song Evolution
Now, we've all heard rumors of various songs turning to one another. Sometimes these rumors are true and sometimes they aren't. However, for the sake of this book, we will deal only in jams that obviously turned into songs or songs that turned into other songs. Many songs were jammed out long before they were recorded or ever had words. These songs are not listed here unless they actually turned into different, other songs.
Pastoral Jam
Pastoral Jam debuted on February 3rd, 1995. This song consisted of one main jam and one secondary or chorus jam. To avoid any confusion, I will break Pastoral Jam into 2 parts. The first part or verse is Pastoral Jam I. The second part or chorus is Pastoral Jam II. The entire Pastoral Jam (both I and II) turned into Pastoral.
Pastoral Jam I
Pastoral Jam I evolved into You Don't Have To Go. Essentially this song is Pastoral Jam I with a new chorus in place of Pastoral Jam II.
Pastoral Jam II
Pastoral Jam II evolved into Then She Said My Name. Essentially this song is Pastoral Jam II used as a verse with a new chorus.
Thorn's Progress
Parts of Thorn's Progress evolved into Buttermilk Waltz (with a Nick Drake flair)
Paint An Eight Jam
Besides the obvious fact that Paint An Eight Jam evolved into Paint An Eight, the verse part of Paint An Eight Jam evolved into the chorus and intro sections of Come On.
If It Ever Stops Raining
If It Ever Stops Raining turned into By Your Side, the chorus and name of the song were changed.
Sad Brown Eyes
Sad Brown Eyes turned into Go Faster, the chorus and name of the song were changed.
Your Such A Pity
Parts of this song were used to make up the chorus of Tied Up And Swallowed
You're Wrong
You're Wrong evolved into Sting Me. Sting Me had completely different words, but the same basic music backing.
Bruises And Pills
Bruises And Pills evolved into No Speak No Slave. The two songs share many of the same lyrics. The music for the two songs are, however, decidedly different.
