Songs Played Live in 1967

The Stones kind of fell off the deep end in 1967, going for a more popular but psychadelic sound than what they had been playing. The darkness of Aftermath was replaced with the jingle jangle attempt at psychadelia, which although it probably was legitimate, sounded very fake and very unlike the Rolling Stones. The three albums that year concetrated on bubbly weirdness, and it didn't work. However, the Stones continued to release great singles. Flowers, one of the three albums released in 1967, contained a large chunk of the band's recent singles.

At the beginning of the year, the Stones released Between The Buttons, parts of the album were good, but none of it is fantastic. What more really needs to be said. It is a pop album, and thankfully it was one of the Stones last.

The band toured off of Between the Buttons. The tour would be Brian Jones last tour, and unfortunately, very little was recorded from this tour. Most likely it was similar to the 1966 tours, with a handful of new songs.

Flowers was really a compilation of singles and in that respect it is pretty good, but all of the new material on it is the same vein as Between the Buttons. As an album, Flowers doesn't really count, its part leftovers and the rest is songs that everyone already knew.

Satanic Majesties, although slightly better than Between the Buttons, was another album going in the wrong direction. The band appeared to be trying to make an album that would be filled with all of the strange music people wanted to hear at the time. Good Psychadelia can ge great, but forced psychadelia is only good at best. Luckily, the Stones were still a great band, so there are a few gems on this album. At the end of the year, it was anyone's guess where the Stones were headed. One thing they didn't do was tour. From May 1967 until November of 1969, the Stones played a total of three concerts.
